El Vado is Spanish for “The Crossing,”and this iconic Route 66 motel on the west side of Albuquerque was named due to its proximity to the ford of the Rio Grande River. Originally opened in 1937 it spent many years in disrepair with an uncertain future. After some much needed renovations it has reopened.
